Here is what E'Stang looked like when we brought it
home. The front fenders are dented, the windshield is broken, the
clutch is blown, and if you look close you can see the REPO sticker on the
windshield. This is one sorry looking Mustang!
Here is a view of the original 4 cyl. engine before it was removed.
After a lot of work here is what is left of the front of the car. The
front brakes have been removed and replaced with the larger disk brakes from
the 8 cyl. version, and the front springs have been replaced with custom
springs to handle the additional load.
The gas tank, spare tire well, and trunk floor were then removed to allow
the addition of the rear batteries.
The rear suspension was then upgraded to include custom coil springs and
11" disk brakes to replace the factory drum brakes. The disk
brake conversion was made by Stainless
Steel Brakes.
The 9" ADC motor was then prepared for assembly to the
transmission. The converter plate and coupler were machined by my
father. Note that this is a clutchless conversion, so the motor ties
directly to the transmission.
Here is a closer look at the coupler between the motor and the
transmission. It is machined from a 6" "V" belt pulley
that has been modified such that the inner section of the clutch plate, with
the transmission spline, is inserted into the end of the pulley. You
can also see the photo pickup for the tach which is part of the DCP
600amp controller that will be providing power to the motor.
Here is the motor and transmission after final assembly, being tested before
installing it into the car.
More coming soon!!!
